Does Bamboo Underwear Dry Quickly?

Bamboo clothing has fast become one of the most popular fashion trends especially for socks and underwear.

Many people have the same question when considering the transition to bamboo options…

Does bamboo underwear dry quickly?

The answer isn’t as simple as it may seem. The truth is, the answer is yes … and no.

The point of today’s blog is to help clear up this ambiguous and confusing response.

Moisture Wicking

Let’s start by discussing what makes bamboo a quick drying underwear material.

Bamboo has many great qualities that make it highly sought after, including its breathability, antibacterial properties, eco-friendly nature, and moisture wicking abilities, just to name a few. These are all great features, but today we just want to focus on its moisture wicking abilities.

Bamboo fibres are 3 times more absorbent than cotton and are therefore highly moisture wicking.

This means it will remove any moisture, like sweat, away from your skin quickly to keep you feeling dry and comfortable all day and night long. This is a highly beneficial - and some would even say essential - quality in the scorching Australian heat.

Under layers of clothing, while getting active, sleeping, or just enjoying an Aussie summer, sweat can quickly accumulate everywhere, including in your nether regions. So, having quick drying underwear will help you cool down and feel more comfortable.

Drying Time

Now, let’s just touch on what we mean when we say it’s not quick drying.

Due to bamboo fabric’s highly beneficial, enhanced absorbency it can take longer to dry after being submerged in water.

Since you are often dry when you’re wearing your underwear, this shouldn’t pose a problem. The only time you will have to give the drying time a second thought is after you wash them.

If you hand wash your underwear they’ll absorb a tonne of water and be extremely heavy and give you a workout while you wring them out before you set them out to dry.

Using the spin cycle on your washing machine will speed up the drying time a little by removing the excess water for you. Then they’ll just need an extra few minutes in the dryer, or to be laid out in the Aussie sun for a few hours.

While bamboo is generally not labelled as dryer safe, due to the high heat, our bamboo underwear will be safe in the dryer for short periods on low heat. So, if you’re in a rush you can just throw them in the machine and have dry undies ready to wear in no time.

We know that many men think they can get by with just 1 or 2 pairs of underwear, but we encourage you to invest in a few more pairs. This will not only enhance your wardrobe, but it will also reduce the amount of thought you have to give to their drying time.
